Products Revisited: June 2014

Purchased by me  Received as gift  Press Sample

I’m super embarrassed I let this series go because it’s pretty important! Especially since I have questionable brand loyalty, rarely repurchase products, and never give warning why something magically disappears from my regime or suddenly reappears months later.

Eco Styler Krystal Strong Hold Gel (review: July 2013)
Guys….This stuff is wonderful. I’m a complete convert and I’ll be preaching the gospel of Eco Styler for a while because I want to try ALL THEIR GELS. These huge jars last forever and they haven’t failed me in a range of styles.

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara (review: March 2013)
This is hands down my favorite high end mascara. I don’t have too much experience with higher end mascaras, but since I’ve been trying out the ones in the Sephora sampler, they’ve all been compared to this and have failed miserably.

Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner(review: October 2010)

I’m running low on my beloved Hello Hydration and I plan on shelving it. Possibly for good in favor of this guy. Lately, I’ve been having a ton of scalp issues and I’m hopping cutting silicones out will put an end to them.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer (review: October 2013)
I wanted to love this. I really wanted to love this. I thought I could WILL myself into loving it and I just can’t. I got exceptionally pale this past winter so the oxidizing problem I mentioned in my review became an even bigger issue because instead of covering up my dark circles, it just made them stand out more. Since summer is practically upon us and I know I’m going to get my color back and then some, I plan on polishing this sucker off by using it foundation and never repurchasing it ever.

SheaMoisture African Black Soap (review: September 2011)
Alas! I had to shelve this fabulous product indefinitely. I have combination skin that’s been on a super dry kick so all this has been doing for nothing for my skin. After washing my face, my skin felt so dry and tight it was actually painful. I replaced it with SheaMoisture’s Olive & Green Tea Shea Butter Soap but that started making me unbearable oily. Ugh. I can’t win.

Nene’s Secret S.S.T Strengthening Serum Treatment (review September 2013)
Serums are not for natural hair unless it’s straightened. The end.

Have you tried any of these? Gone back to some old favorites? Abandoned them forever for something new? Tell me in the comments!

    Love Tresseme Naturals

“Serums are not for natural hair unless it’s straightened. The end.”
Whoa! Discuss please! I’ve been dabbling in serums and haven’t found much to talk about but I thought it was just me :/

  • AliceinNappyland

Does it come in big bottles? I’d like to get a jumbo bottle if they make it.

  • AliceinNappyland

There isn’t much talk about it at all! And I think it’s mainly because serums tend to be silicone heavy and most of us avoid those like the plague.

I find that they just don’t do much for me. I tried it as a sealer and my twists and twist outs got super frizzy fast, which is annoying but getting the build up out was a nightmare. I’d rather just use an oil for shine. 9:10 they’re cheaper and add a little extra omph to my hair.

I’ve been recently considering switching to eco-styler gel. The gels I’ve tried are good, but they’re too wet, if that makes any sense, causing my edges to take a longer time to set with a scarf. The fact that I’ve seen this gel in action in soooo many YT videos has me sold. I’ve already shelved my Hello Hydration shampoo & conditioner. Immediately before my transition to natural, my scalp went crazy! I would develop these huge, itchy, & very painful scabs on my scalp. I don’t know the exact cause, but I believed my products were the culprits. Not only did I transition, much sooner than I planned, I switched to all natural products and my scalp healed. I’ve been using the HH products (which are similar to my previously used products) for a long while without any problems until i recently began to feel the scabs returning. Even though my products haven’t gone all natural, I have switched to a sulfate-free shampoo along with the Tresemme Naturals conditioner and my scalp has cleared after one use. So I refuse to go back. Besides, the Tresemme conditioner works much better than the HH conditioner.

Scabs!? Yikes! I’m so glad you got it sorted out! For me it’s just dandruff and general itchiness. I’m hoping re-introducing all natural products will help it go away because I don’t remember having these issues back in the day when I was a 100% all natural products, curly girl rule book following natural.

For my skin I use Olay beauty bars and witch hazel, seems to do the job for my combination skin. I love tresseme naturals as well.

  • AliceinNappyland

My problem with Olay’s products are the scent. It’s waaaayyy too strong for me. I <3 witch hazel! It’s one of my favorite toners.

I like Benefits They’re Real mascara, before it was Tarte…now Benefits I only use…better than drugstore brands

I’ve only ever seen the 24oz bottles, but I’d love a jumbo one!
