I’ve been on the hunt for the Perfect Sunblock for years. Something lightweight, plays nice with makeup and doesn’t leave a white (or purple cast). This summer, thanks to Sheryll of The Wanderlust Project, Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence walked into my life and it’s pretty darn close to being my Perfect Sunblock.
The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a true slap-on-and-go sunblock. It dries down quickly, doesn’t leave a weird texture, and is unexpectedly matte. It’s got a light, fresh, citrus sent which makes it, to me, feel more like a fancy skincare product instead of just sunblock. And the gel texture? A refreshing change from the heavy, thick, goop-y sunblocks I’m used to.
It’s not the best for hanging out at the beach or doing strenuous activity since it is not sweat or water proof. But if you’re like me and spend most of your day indoors and just need something for incidental exposure, you should be OK. For days I’m going to be outside longer or I’m going to be more active, I use Paula’s Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50.
This is a chemical sunscreen, so you will want to avoid it if you’re sensitive to those. It’s also got quite a bit of alcohol in it so it might not work for you if you have dry skin. The ingredients are in Japanese on the bottle, but you can check out an English list here to make sure you won’t have a reaction to it. I have sensitive combination skin, but I haven’t had an issues with this causing irritation. Woo hoo!
My one complaint about Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is it’s tiny – 50g. I need to wear sun protection every day because I use a lot of chemical exfoliants in my skincare routine so I blew through this annoyingly fast. It’s quite affordable (a got a 2 pack for about $16) so I don’t mind, but it makes it harder to justify repurchasing. Especially since it’s not sweat proof.
Have you tried a sunblock like this? What did you think? Tell me in the comments below!
