The Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipsticks have completely unseated Kat Von D‘s in the race for Favorite Liquid Lipstick. This is one instance where I feel like the products definitely live up to their hype. I picked up the shades Brick and Berry Me, two very (beautiful) fall appropriate shades and they’ve already got a home in my regular rotation.
Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks are vegan, cruelty free, gluten free and paraben free. But they’ve also got a shorter shelf life than most liquid lipsticks – just 6 months. I’ve heard several people mention that the consistency of these changes dramatically around that point so it’s something to keep in mind if you’re ordering several shades or stocking multiples of your favorite shade.
They went above and beyond on the packaging of these. They look and feel expensive. And the doe foot applicator? Perfection. The tip makes really clean, sharp lines around the edges – no need for liner. It’s got a slight contour at the tip that really love. It makes it extremely easy to get even coverage and it holds the perfect amount of product. I hope this tiny detail becomes common for all lip gloss and liquid lipstick packaging!
I highly suggest you check out swatches from b/vloggers before making a purchase. I think the colors on the site are a little off. For example, the Berry Me on their site looks like a dark purple color, but it’s actually more muted in person. Which is great for me, because I’m a little intimidated by deep, dark colors. Not so great if that’s what you’re going for.
The one thing I’m not a fan of is the fact these aren’t transfer proof. Which is strange for a matte liquid lipstick. I’ve noticed lipstick on straws, sandwiches, cups, and even my chin after eating. But this isn’t a deal breaker for me for two reasons. One: both these shades stain and don’t look patchy as they fade. Two: despite drying down to a truly matte finish, these don’t leave my lips peeling or feeling extremely dry. They’re the most comfortable liquid lipstick I’ve ever worn.
If I prepped my lips properly (exfoliate and apply lip balm about 15 minutes before applying) I can get up to 6 hours of wear before I feel the need to reapply. And even that process isn’t an ordeal. Neither color gets crumbly, looks cakey or start feeling heavy and tight after a second coat.
