Yes, I’m alive and “back” from an extended blog vacation to bring you Best in Beauty 2016! There are a lot of repeat favorites (some of which have been in rotation for several years!) and some new kids on the block who’ve already established themselves strong contenders for The Staple Shelf.
SheaMoisture Mineral Powder Blush – Spice: I haven’t tried much of SheaMoisture’s makeup line, but this is one of the best impulse purchase of 2016. Spice has great color pay off and just enough shimmer to add life to the skin without looking like you rolled in glitter. It’s also one of the few drugstore blushes I’ve come across that are silicone, paraben, talc, gluten, sulfate, phthalate, mineral oil, fragrance, and cruelty free.
Bobbi Brown Corrector – Deep Peach: I tried so many more affordable options to replace this corrector but NOTHING, I mean nothing toped it. It disappears into my skin and on good days, I don’t even need under eye concealer.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Bold Brow Kit – Dark Brown: My brows had a rough year. I tried several new brow ladies (bad idea), bleached them (worse idea), and started stress plucking again (worst idea). The kit helped hide all of that. It comes with a full sized brow powder duo, full sized brow gel, and mini duo brush, which I think is the perfect size. These products are cruelty free.
Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick – Brick (review here): Dose of Colors stomped in and snatched the title of my favorite liquid lipstick for their super comfortable and pigmented formula. Brick stands out because it’s the dark brick red I’ve spent months looking for. This product is cruelty free.
Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation – N80: Cover FX knocks it out of the park again with this cream foundation. It’s got great coverage (I’ve used it as concealer in a pinch!) but is remarkably skin like. Huzzah for a massive shade selection and a paraben, sulfate, phthalate, fragrance, gluten, mineral oil, talc, and cruelty free formula!
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water & Waterproof Makeup Remover (review here): Need an affordable makeup remover or an i’m-too-lazy-to-wash-my-face cleanser that doesn’t irritate your skin? This micellar water is your new best friend.
CosRX Low Ph Good Morning Cleanser: Nothing “wakes me up” like this lemongrass scent. It’s one of the few fragranced cleansers that don’t completely dry or irritate my skin!
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence (review here): I’ve never had a sunscreen that was so comfortable, lightweight and worked so well under makeup. If it waterproof or water resistant my sunscreen search would be over RIGHT NOW.
Van der Hagen Traditional Safety Razor: While not technically skincare, switching to a safety razor has given me the closet shave of my life. And did wonders for my budget. Double whammy!
Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner: This one of the few conditioners I’ve found that can do double duty as both a co-wash conditioner and a regular post-shampoo conditioner. It’s extremely hydrating and can take down some serious rat’s nest like tangles.
SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner (review here): This is a holy grail to the point my back ups have back ups.
Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly: Thanks to my commitment to the wash and go life, I’ve been experimenting with light weight stylers. And this one blew me out of the park. It gives a nice amount of hold, plenty of definition, and smells great.
DIY Ribbon Ties: The easiest, cheapest and most useful DIY I’ve ever done. Seriously, all you need are some scissors and some fold over elastic from the craft store. Ribbon ties don’t feeI tight on my head when worn as a headband nor do they pull my hair out when I use them for puffs.
There you have it! My favorite products of 2016. What made your list? Tell me in the comments below.
