You’re ready to make your purchase. You’ve done your homework and read all about formulas & finishes, undertones, and the pros/cons of drugstore and department store foundation. But when you arrive at the store, you pause. What should my foundation be matching? My neck? My face? My chest? All of the Above?!
Now that you know the basics of formula and undertones– it’s time to hit the streets and actually make a purchase. For most people, that means going either to a department store or drugstore. There are pros and cons for each route but there things to consider before making your purchase.
Undertones are the bane of many a brown girl looking for foundation. Why? Because the undertone is what can take your foundation from “my skin is actually just this perfect” to sickly, ashy or even bobble head-y. Aka what happens when your face is darker, lighter, or redder than the rest of your body or generally looks like a mask. It’s not cute and it’s definitely happened to me before.
I got a great comment on my Foundation and Concealer Directory about having trouble finding foundation that matched. I went on a long, long winded rant about undertones before going – you know, this would make a great series! Something simple and to the point information to make buying your first foundation (that actually works!) a bit easier.
