These are the questions I get asked the most in comments or in emails. If you think anything should be added, feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email!
Are you Ethiopian?
Yes/no-first gen, born in the United States.
What’s your hair type?
I hate this question because it doesn’t really tell you much about my hair, but if you must know, a pretty solid 4a with some 3c patches. More useful information: I have fine, low porosity, medium-low density hair.
Do you only use all natural/organic/silicone-free/petroleum-free/whatever-people-are-telling-us-to-use-on-our-hair?
Kinda sorta. I try to use as many all natural products from Black owned businesses but with my budget that’s not always possible. The only thing I actively try to avoid is mineral oil. And flat ironing my hair, but that’s because I’m lazy and tend to get caught in the rain or thrown in water whenever I wear my hair straight.
Do you buy your own products?
Yes! And with my hard earned money too. I occasionally a do get products for review but those are clearly labeled and all opinions in the review are mine. I get nothing out of lying to you. You get nothing out of me lying to you. If you want more information on this, check out my disclosure page.
LIAR! You said X Product was AMAZEBALLS and it DID X, Y, Z to ME!!!11
I’m sorry X, Y, Z happened! But I can’t promise what works for me won’t have disastrous results for you. I always say check the ingredients in products I like and use to make sure you’re not allergic or don’t have a history of bad reactions to ingredients in them.
I posted a comment anonymously and it hasn’t showed up! It’s been 3 weeks!! Why aren’t you letting me share my brilliance with the world you stupid @#$%!!!
Most anonymous comments don’t make it past the spam filter. If it does make it through the spam filter, the likelihood of it getting posted is still pretty slim. In my experience, Anon comments have been used to start drama or foolishness and I don’t allow that here. However, I do allow anon comments on specific posts and those posts are noted and often accompanied by a trigger warning.
And don’t curse at me. I try to keep this site PG/PG-13 so I control my sailor mouth. And if I can, you can to.
I DIDN’T post a comment anonymously and it hasn’t showed up? What’s going on?
Did you post a link in your comment? If so, that’s probably why it hasn’t shown up. Links tend to send comments straight to my spam folder and since I don’t check that regularly–comments with them tend to take longer to show up.
Hey! You featured my photos/art without my permission! Can you take it down or give me credit?
OF COURSE! If you see something that is yours and it’s not credited and you would like credit for the image or you want me to take it down, please send me an email with a direct link to the post and where you originally posted it. I love giving credit where credit is due or taking down something that you would prefer not shared.
I’m a representative of x company, will you be interested in reviewing a product for us?
Yes! Please email me and we can talk further. Reviewing a product can take me a while (4-6 weeks after receiving said product) because that gives me enough time to get a good idea of how the product works and the best way to use it. Be advised that I will not lie to my readers about how much I like/dislike a product and anything you send is for consideration only.
What’s your skin type?
Sensitive, combination, and dehydrated. Pretty clear overall with breakouts on my forehead and around my mouth/chin. You can read more about my skincare routine here.
How do you do your eyebrows?
It depends on if I’ve over plucked them or not! In general, I don’t do much to them, I have naturally very dark and very thick eyebrows. On a day to day basis, I usually slap on some tinted brow gel. If I’ve over plucked them, I’ll use a dark brown-ish taupe brow pencil or shadow to fill them in.
