2015 was a good year in terms of makeup, skincare and hair care. I was introduced to a lot of amazing new products and most importantly, I finally have staples that I don’t want to replace! This means I can downsize even further and focus on polishing off most of my stash in the new year to build a collection of only products I love.
Becca Ever Matte Primer: Becca NAILED IT when it came to making a truly mattifying primer. I didn’t know it was possible to make my combo skin TOO matte, but this does it.
It’s My Cushion DIY BB Cushion Kit: I’ve been intrigued by BB cushion foundations for a while, but they don’t come in too many shades for dark skin. I was over the moon when I discovered this DIY kit, which has been making my makeup-on-the-way-to-work routine quick and easy. I don’t want to say too much because I’ve got a full review for you coming up soon!
Inglot Gel Liner in 77: I spent most of 2015 in gel liner. This gel liner. Because it’s the best I’ve ever tried. It’s dark, it doesn’t dry out quickly (seriously, I’ve had mine for months and it’s still going strong), it’s extremely creamy, and it stays put. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Colorupop Blush: After giving away most of my blushes in my great talc experiment, I’ve been rocking Quarters or Cruel Intentions every day with little desire to purchase new ones. They’re long lasting, super pigmented, and I can apply them with my fingers. Great for speedy more routines.
Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Lolita: Rosy brown-y nudes were my jam in 2015. But Lolita? Lolita changed EVERYTHING. It made me fall in love with liquid lipsticks. It’s long lasting, comfortable and once it dried down, completely immobile. As long as I didn’t eat anything too greasy. I got a mini in my stocking stuffer and I’ve added the full size to my Sephora Spring Sale 2015 purchase list.
Maybelline Better Skin Concealer: Maybelline needs to get their act together and release this in about 10 more shades because it’s hands down the best drugstore concealer I’ve ever tried! It’s not super drying so I can use it under my eyes, the coverage is solid, and it’s extremely affordable.
Shea Moisture Manuka Honey Shampoo: Holy. Grail. Shampoo. I’m pretty much only using this now and I stock up with there’s a BOGOFree sale! It leaves my hair smelling great and doesn’t leave it feeling stripped it at all.
ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor: When my hair as longer and I was growing out my color, I needed regular protein treatments. This was my favorite because it was pretty potent but never left my hair feeling hard, stiff or generally over protein-ed. It also only took two minutes. Win!
Shea Moisture Manuka Honey Deep Conditioner: Another Holy Grail. I’m not sure what Shea Moisture put in this line but it’s absolutely magically. There are no words for how much I love this product.
Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste: Now that I have a TWA, I’ve been really into the look of sleek edges and headbands. This smells great, has good hold and most importantly, DOESN’T FLAKE.
Tresemme Naturals Conditioner: I hadn’t tried this conditioner since they reformulated it a few years ago and I REALLY like it. As much if not more as the original. I use it as both a rinse out and co-wash because it’s got amazing slip and leaves my hair super bouncy and defined.
Ecostyler Clear Gel: Ecostyler is a classic. There isn’t much to say about it other than it does it’s job extremely well. No flaking. High shine. And hold that could survive the apocalypse. And the fact you can get it in massive jars that last forever? Excellent.
TWA: I HATED my TWA when I first chopped it, but after a few weeks, I’ve fallen COMPLETELY in love. I have so much more time! I’m not really sure I’m going to grow my hair out again.
