My (Current) Full Nighttime Skincare Routine

Today’s post is focused on what I call my full nighttime skincare routine. This is the routine I try to do every night. I’m giving you a warning, this is pretty long. It’s based on the multi-step routines you see coming out of Korea. It won’t get me in bed in 5 minutes, but it’s a nice way to unwind after a long day. And it’s done great things for my skin.

Did I forget to mention this doesn’t include treatments, masks or exfoliants? Yeah. Those don’t happen every day and aren’t included. Next time. Promise.

THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP: MAKEUP REMOVAL

I wear makeup 5-6 days a week. And no matter how tired I am, I always take all of it off before sleeping. In my full nighttime routine, I double cleanse. What’s double cleansing? Double cleansing is using an oil based cleanser or balm followed by a foaming cleanser. It’s incredibly effective and, I find, more gentle than using a makeup wipe.

Garnier Waterproof Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser

 (review here) Because I go heavy on the mascara and liner, I take my eye makeup off before oil cleansing. Do you have to do this? No. But I hate waking up with extra crusty eyes because I didn’t get everything off the night before.

Dermalogica Precleanse

This is my current oil cleanser and it’s EXPENSIVE. It’s what made me fall in love with double cleansing. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry and it rinses completely clean. Bonus – it’s cruelty free!

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

This is the best affordable oil cleanser I’ve found – smells nice and rinses clean. Right now, it’s a little drying for me so I plan on using it more the summer when when I’m a super grease ball. P.S. – never pay full price for this. The Body Shop regularly does 40%-50% off sales which brings the price down to around $10. A steal when compared to Dermalogica!

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser

I’m not a huge fan of this face wash but it’s what I have right now. I can’t wait to be done with it in favor of something better.

MOISTURIZE & TREAT

Once I’m done taking off all my makeup and washing my face, it’s time to moisturize. I find if I keep my skin super hydrated, my oily patches don’t act up as much and my dry patches don’t feel flaky or tight. The best way I’ve found to do that? Layer light weight products and seal them in with an oil.

Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion

Now that it’s getting warmer and my skin oiler, I’ve started using this to help with oil control. So far so good!

Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence

I use this as a “prep” before my serum. However, it’s pretty thick for an essence so it can definitely function as a stand alone serum. It has anti-aging, soothing and “brightening” properties, in addition being very hydrating.

Olay Fragrance Free Regenerist Regenerating Serum

This made it to my Best in Beauty 2015 list for a good reason. No need to repeat myself since it’s still a staple!

Shara Shara Water Girl’s Ice Cream

This gel moisturizer came in my Shara Shara Box and I really like it! But I won’t be repurchasing it – the jar packaging is a nightmare.

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream

This is the newest addition to my night routine and so far – I’m really liking it! It’s everything I wanted in an eye cream!

Passion Fruit Seed Oil aka Maracuja Oil

Let’s get one thing straight, I don’t use the fancy one from Tarte. I got a sample of Tartes, loved it, couldn’t justify the price tag and went straight to a wholesaler. Seriously, you can get it for around $10 for 1 oz!

My full nighttime skincare routine. It’s very long and very much in flux. Despite the fact I want to replace half the products here, I’m really pleased with what this kind of routine has done for me. My skin is starting to normalize (less super dry/oily) and my face is literally GLOWING.
