I picked up Simple Micellar Cleansing Water because I had a gift card at Target and I figured why not try something new and kind of weird. The fact that that I’ve been super intrigued by the brand, it’s one of the few drugstore options marketed exclusively for super sensitive skin like mine, helped me justify it even more.
I was immediately doubtful when I opened the bottle. It looks, feels and smells like water. I headed to the internet to figure out how it works. Here’s what Paula’s Choice’s Beautypedia Team had to say on it:
Micellar involves micelles, which are a type of electrically charged particle. Micelle technology is one way of explaining how any surfactant (which this product and thousands of other cleansers contain) combines with water and interacts with oils (such as the sebum our skin produces) to clean any surface, including skin.Paula’s Choice
Results For Me
Let’s get something straight, Simple Micellar Cleansing Water does a piss poor job taking makeup off. Period. I needed several cotton rounds covered in this stuff to completely take a full face of makeup off. Which felt wasteful because an oil cleanser and eye makeup remover can gets everything off with one cotton round and in significantly less time. If you’re someone who tends to wear super light makeup (If I’m wearing makeup, I tend to go all out and wear foundation, concealer, mascara, liner, etc.) you might not have this problem.
But when I’m not trying to slough off tons of makeup, oil and the day’s stress? This stuff is nice! It’s super quick and refreshing. Even though the instructions say you don’t need to rinse it out, I highly suggest rinsing it off if you have super sensitive skin like mine. I ended up with tiny bumps that looked like a rash but wasn’t super itchy on days I didn’t. But other than that, no other skin issues after about 3 weeks of daily use!
